What is AvantGo?

AvantGo provides an incredibly useful distribution service that provides news channels, clippings from web sites, journal articles and whole bunch of other stuff. FREE!

When you drop your device in its cradle at night for recharging, synchronising etc, you will be connected to the AvantGo web site, from which you can grab the latest headlines etc. Your computer must be connected to the Internet at the time for this to occur - if not, then AvantGo will simply give up and try again next time you are connected to the Internet.

How to install it

The AvantGo client that is needed on your PDA comes pre-installed. But you do need to go to the AvantGo web site to select which channels you want to receive. Click on the 'Sign me up' and their web site will lead you through the process. Note that you already have the software needed so on the next page, click on the small print link in the bottom right corner where it says 'Already have AvantGo...'

Where to find good stuff

There are 3 or 4 channels pre-installed on your device. Use the AvantGo web site to change these to your own preferences. Next time you sync, the new channels will be downloaded onto your device.

There are also some good medical channels available. The HandheldMed web site has a number including

bulletAmerican Family Physician
bulletBritish Medical Journal
bulletThe Lancet
bulletNew England Journal of Medicine

You can find these at http://www.handheldmed.com/mobilecontent.php

If you find other sites or channels that are available via AvantGo then please let us know. You can do this via the Requirements Discussion forum or directly via this email form.
