File TransferTo copy files from your desktop over from your PocketPC (and vice versa), for example, pictures, databases, word docs, you can do this quite simply using ActiveSync. You do this in much the same way as you use Explorer on your desktop - by dragging and dropping or by Copy/Cut/Paste. First, place your device in its cradle and sync in the usual manner. Then click on the Explore button in the ActiveSync window on your desktop.
This will open a window on your desktop, similar to the regular Explorer window, which looks something like this.
Alternatively, the list of files may be displayed as icons. You can alter how the view is displayed, just as with any other Explorer window by changing the View...
Double click on the 'My Pocket PC' icon to take you to the top level so that you can see all your folders, including those on your Storage Card. Navigate to the folder where your file is. Then simply highlight the file you wish to copy. Then click on Edit | Copy (or Cut if you want to move rather than copy the file). Then change windows to the Explorer window on your desktop (use Windows + E quick key to launch Explorer). Navigate to the folder where you wish to place the file and then click on Edit | Paste. ActiveSync will transfer the files for you and if there is some file conversion needed, it will happen at this point. File conversionMost files are transferred back and forth directly. However, for some common files types, ActiveSync will convert the files to a format that works better on the PocketPC. eg
Usually ActiveSync knows when to convert a file type. In some unusual cases, you have to educate it on how to do this - if you come across such a situation, contact us. |
