Setting up a New Partnership

When you first connect your device to a desktop or laptop computer, it will try to establish a Partnership with that computer. Sometimes you will also need to do this after a Restore of your data.

Before you connect your device to the desktop, install the ActiveSync software on the desktop. This is contained on the CDROM that came with your device - if for some reason, you cannot find this, you can also download the latest version from the Microsoft web site - the file is 3MB in size.

Once you have installed ActiveSync, place your device in its cradle and connect the cradle up to power and to the USB port on your desktop. If you have installed ActiveSync correctly, it should automatically recognise that there is a device in the cradle and proceed to establish a new Partnership.

If you are doing this as part of a Restore process, go now to the Backup & Restore page for further instructions. Otherwise, select Yes and set up a new Partnership.

If ActiveSync asks you about previous Partnerships, tell it to delete any previous partnerships with other computers and only synchronise with this computer.

Follow the prompts and in most cases, simply accept the default options eg. for Contacts, Calendar etc.

If ActiveSync asks you about combining your data,

generally you will choose to combine the items as shown above. The 'Replace' option is more appropriate when you are Restoring data to your device from a previous synchronisation.

You will need to do a Soft Reset once the process is complete in many cases.
