Reinstalling the provided softwareOk, we won't breathe a word of "I told you so..." (but we bet you now go and take another look at the FAQs on recharging batteries and backing up your data) And to be fair, for various reasons, despite all our precautions, it happens to the best of us - the battery ran down too far and you've lost all your data. Data that you createdStuff that you have entered into the Personal Information Manager - Contacts, Calendar, Tasks - will still be on your copy of Outlook on your desktop. If you synchronise with ActiveSync on a regular basis then this will be kept quite up to date. The data will be automatically restored to your device from the desktop Outlook store with the minimum of fuss. Note that when you connect your device to the desktop the first time after such a battery rundown, ActiveSync may not recognise your device and ask to create a new partnership. If you want to use the old partnership, disconnect the device, rename it to the previous name you were using before, and then reconnect and ActiveSync again.
If you turned on the Files option in ActiveSync, then documents and files that you created in the \My Documents folder (the default location) on your device are automatically copied to the desktop and will also be sync'd back to your device when you reconnect. Data that was stored in non-volatile memory will survive a battery run-down. This means that stuff that you have stored on a memory card or in the "iPAQ File Store" will still be ok. These particular memory types do not require battery power to keep them alive. It is a good idea to store crucial files in these memory areas. Beyond this, if you have not created a backup of your data, retrieving it after a battery failure is not possible - sorry, it's gone! There are some important bits of data that you really want to preserve - data that you have collected in Praxis and GeriPal are not automatically backed up on the device. Unfortunately, at the moment, these programs will not reliably run on memory cards and have to use the standard memory areas. You can backup your data in Praxis with the simple menu choice: Tools | Backup. However, your best bet with these logging tools is to regularly send your data into the server with the built-in synchronisation tools. Stuff that we providedWhen you restart your device after a battery rundown, you will find that the most basic tools such as Contacts, Calendar etc all still work as before - they are just empty. But the medical programs that we installed for you have gone! If you are in close proximity to a tech support team member, you may be lucky in that the complete memory image of the device, as of the day you received it, can be restored in about 5 minutes...and they won't even give you much of a hard time about doing it. (Grateful hugs, kisses, bottles of champagne all gladly received...) We hope to have a quick One-Step Restore process available shortly. Check here for details on how to do this. Otherwise the procedure for restoring the programs yourself is a bit more involved. Lexi Clinical SuiteThe easiest way to reinstall LexiDrugs, Lexi Interact, and Griffiths' 5 Min Clinical Consult is to go the LexiComp web site and download a demo version of the Clinical Suite which includes all these packages. The demo is fully functional but is limited to 25 uses. It is reasonably easy to register the software - you have already received instructions by email on how to do this. This will not be posted on the web site for obvious reasons. The Clinical Suite is about 8-10MB in size so it is best to download this over a reasonably fast connection. If you running over a plain telephone line, this will take quite a while. Click here for more information on working with the LexiComp package. PraxisThe Praxis procedure log program is pre-installed on your device. It is a bit fiddly to reinstall - click here for further instructions about this. As mentioned above, any data that you previously entered into Praxis will be gone. Hopefully, you will have diligently kept up to date with synchronising your procedures up to the server. GeriPalThe Geriatrics and Palliative care log is easier to reinstall. You will have to sync with the server again before you can use the log. Any data that you entered previously will be gone. Keep sending that data in regularly - you'll be glad you did. We are currently updating GeriPal - a new version will be available here shortly. |
