Resetting your device

This information applies to both PocketPCs and Palms.

Occasionally you will find that your device becomes confused or acts strangely. At times like this it is often useful to reset your device. There are two kinds of Reset and it is important to understand the difference.

Hard Reset

Consult your hardware manual on how to reset your device - a soft reset usually entails inserting a pin into a tiny hole and pressing gently.

Soft Reset:

This closes all running programs and restarts the operating system cleanly. If you have partly entered data into a page e.g. a Contact, a Word document etc. and have not closed that page then you may lose the latest changes to that page. However all the rest of your data and programs will remain intact.

A soft reset can be very useful and is generally a safe thing to do.

Hard Reset:

This should only be performed in extreme circumstances - it has exactly the same disastrous effect as letting your batteries run completely flat. YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA AND PROGRAMS YOU HAVE INSTALLED.

Try not to do this unless you have a full backup of all your stuff.
